Why must a self-priming pump first be filled with water?
The self-priming pump must have a sufficient amount of water in the pump housing. Failing this, the pump may be damaged due to dry running. Furthermore, the suction process shouldn’t be interrupted by repeatedly turning the pump off and on, as this will result in process restarting.
